🔥 Should Pitchers Train Biceps?

Should pitchers train biceps? Social media guru’s say it’s bad, but as is often the case, actual research says the opposite:

“The biceps contract eccentrically along with other elbow flexors to help decelerate the rapid elbow extension that peaks during arm acceleration.

This is an important function because weakness or fatigue in the elbow flexors can result in elbow extension being decelerated by impingement of the olecranon in the olecranon fossa, which can lead to bone spurs and subsequent loose bodies within the elbow” (Reinold/Andrews 2009)

In other words, common sense also applies to the bicep: strengthening a muscle improves joint strength and stability, and in this case, strengthening the bicep reduces elbow injuries.

In a day and age where year round tournaments, showcases, and cookie cutter big name facility weighted ball “programs” are all conspiring to send pitcher injuries rate ridiculously high, it’s important to ask “why?”

Guys need SOLUTIONS not dogma, so every spring and summer season isn’t yet another endless cavalcade of lost velo and pitcher injuries, which is sadly ruining the sport for so many kids
